“If you want people to know about what you do and the things you care about, you have to share,” states Kleon in his book Show Your Work: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered.

There are so much value and simplicity implied in this statement that these words have inspired me a lot lately.

Sharing their work online is something most creative people do on daily bases. After all, this is the first step in reaching new fans and getting clients. In the book, Show Your Work, Austin Kleon teaches how to promote your art in this modern age properly.

If you use social media to share your talent or skill, this is the right book for you. The author says that this book is for those who hate the idea of self-promotion so I believe every designer can relate to that at some point.

About the book

Show Your Work by Austin Kleon is simply a small book with a great punch.

I’ve read many artsy guides and books that do not recommend sharing everything you have on social media or even displaying it on a website, but Kleon oh the other hand, embraces this concept with open arms.

In the book, he arranged ten tip filled chapters that define how to showcase and share your creativity with like-minded people. This book just puts you on the right path as an artist away from limitations and outdated stereotypes.

Same as his best seller, Steal Like An Artist, Kleon gives ten easy tips on how and why you should share your art with the world. He understands the struggle of creative artists, and while reading the book, I was surprised to see he has addressed everything that was coming to my mind.

Show Your Work is a quick read. If you focus, you can finish reading this book in an hour. The size of the book is small, but don’t let it fool you, there are many great tips available for people with the starving artist syndrome like me.

This is a complete inspirational book which is up to a point. Each chapter is 2-3 pages long with photographs and drawings that make reading it much faster and enjoyable.

Kleon makes an excellent point in the book that artist should share their work as often as possible. It is frightening but as artists, we know that sharing our work gives us more exposure. You just have to show your work to clients, fans, and colleagues so you can get more work. That is how it works.

I will definitely recommend this book to creatives who are making a living out of their art.

There is a vast knowledge, and this is the reason I keep this book always on my bookshelf and refer to it often. Show your Work is also an excellent gift for fellow creative.
